Discover more about your Tippah County ancestors with this collection of marriage documents (including marriage records, indexes, and application notices for marriage licenses) from the county courthouse in Ripley, Mississippi. These scanned records contain the names of bride and groom, place and date of marriage, and details of witnesses to the wedding and the ceremony’s officiant. The marriage records themselves are divided into two groups, ‘Colored marriage records’ and ‘Marriage records’, which illustrates the reality of segregation in a post-slavery Mississippi. The former group of records starts in 1865, which is the year that slavery was outlawed throughout the United States. The latter group has records dating back to 1858 in this collection. This collection has been provided by FamilySearch.
