Notable individuals

Nathan Hale’s death record is included in this collection. Hale was a soldier during the American Revolutionary War. During the war, Hale volunteered to be a spy against the British in New York City. However, he was captured and executed by the British. Hale was credited with saying, prior to his hanging, ‘I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country’. In the records, Hale is noted as Capt with his death occurring in September of 1776. In 1985, Hale was designated Connecticut’s state hero.
