The Durham burials were previously published in the Northumberland and Durham Burials and the Durham Bishop’s Transcripts Burials.

A number of records have been provided by the College of Arms, the official heraldic authority for England, Wales, Northern Ireland and much of the Commonwealth including Australia and New Zealand.

With the Durham Bishop’s Transcripts, you can explore thousands of burial records. The records include burials from Anglican parishes as well as some burial records from the Society of Friends. Bishop’s transcripts were copies of the parish registers created every year and sent to the bishop. The practice began in 1598 when an act was passed that required each parish to make copies. Bishop’s transcripts are a valuable resource especially if the original parish registers are not available.

The original records are held in the Durham University Library and the images were captured by FamilySearch and the records have been transcribed by Findmypast.
