The indices are organised annually by surname. By browsing through an index you may be able to discover the following facts about your New Jersey ancestors:
Name
Spouse’s name
Date of marriage
Date of marriage license
Municipality
County
The marriage indexes are organised annually in alphabetical order by either the bride or groom’s name. In the later indices, the record will span two pages. On the first page, you will read the names and the second page will show the municipality, county and date.
After 2013, the index headlines of bride and groom are no longer valid and the columns are simply used for spouse 1 and spouse 2. Same sex marriage was legalised in New Jersey in September 2013. These records are one of the first online collections on a genealogical website to feature married same sex couples. The records were first published online by Reclaim the Records.
New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act allows the index to be open to the public, while the marriage certificates remain private. For more information about these records and their digitisation you can read more at Reclaim the Records.
You can narrow your search by book title or year. There are over 300 volumes included in this collection. You can then browse through an entire index of marriages.
