The electoral rolls come in the form of a PDF document, which will mean that they will be a little different from using our standard search. The key thing to remember is that PDF documents will only accept precise text search terms but we’ve provided a few tips to help you find your ancestor.
You must search for the exact words or phrases as they would appear within the text. It’s important to use the spelling that would be used in the document. The search result will bring you to the page where the name or other search term you were looking for is found.
To search for your ancestor by name you will have to search for the name as it appears on the roll. For example, if you were looking for a Bobby Bill Smith you could look for Robert William Smith or simply Robert Smith.
You can use the keyword search to look for any other information you might have, that could be included in the electoral roll - an address, for example.
